Defend
Protecting the right to stand with Palestine.
We give free legal advice and support to people and groups facing repression for their solidarity with Palestine: grassroots activists, students, academics, civil society organisations, artists and cultural institutions.
Movement lawyering
Accountable to the client and to the movement
Our work goes beyond individual casework. In every case we take on, we are accountable not only to the client but to the wider movement in solidarity with Palestine.
We combine monitoring, defensive strategies, impact litigation, training and advocacy to build collective power. Our strategies are informed by the political context the movement works in, and they contribute directly to its goals.
How we work
Our defence procedure
We work case by case and advise on your rights at national, European and international level. Where litigation is needed and the case is within our scope, our in-house lawyers in Germany, England, the Netherlands or Italy represent you. Beyond that, we work with a growing network of lawyers across Europe, so everyone in the movement can get advice, representation or a referral.
01
Listen and strategise
An initial interview to understand what you need and plan the most suitable legal and non-legal remedies.
02
Build the case
We set out the facts, gather the relevant documents and introduce the case to the right lawyer.
03
Develop the strategy
Together with you and the lawyers, we develop the legal strategy and prepare the case.
Legal Aid Fund
Justice should not depend on money
Most of our partner lawyers work pro bono or for minimal fees, but litigation is long and complex, and that isn’t always possible. Our capacity is still limited, so we can’t always help everyone who asks.
A donation to our Legal Aid Fund helps keep access to justice open.
